From our October 1st, 2011 Broadcast Update News is City of Wilmington's source for local news and information. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ California automobile maker Fisker visited the City, giving lucky area residents a first hand look, and drive, of the Karma Hybrid electric car. Senator Tom Carper gave the one-hundred-thousand-dollar luxury car thumbs up after driving it through the streets of Wilmington. The Karma is classified as an Electric Vehicle Extended Range or EVER automobile, meaning it can run on battery or gas, or a combination of both. Estimates put the average mileage at 67 miles per gallon. Beginning in late 2012, Fisker's mid-size sedan, the Nina, will be produced at the former General Motors plant in Newport.
